Something worth disussing

Something worth discussing is the Apple Lisa.

According to past class discussions, it was the first GUI PC, created by Apple Inc. This is arguably one of the more significant technological inventions because it made the process of using a PC far easier.

The first home PC was the Altair 8800, but it didn’t have a monitor, keyboard, mouse, or software. The computer was the most interesting technology we discussed because of the way it has impacted our gathering and sharing of information. The GUI PC created a new kind of relationship and experience between the PC and its user.

According to a class lecture, more than 90% of homes have some form of a PC. With technology moving forward, the PC will be the basis for how future inventions are constructed to meet the needs of the public.

  1. The name and its history makes this computer stand out to me a lot, but without a doubt the GUI is what ultimately makes this invention unique. I could not imagine going about my work everyday on a computer that does not have a user interface. It is because of this, that I am very thankful for the Apple Lisa.

  2. Without a computer my world would be a very different place so it is really cool to think how far they have come. It was also really cool to learn how the first processors or "computers" had to be built by the owner and didn't even have a monitor/add-ons to make it more active. (Kellsey Dunn)

  3. The development of a GUI period was a major technological development! The interface is what allows us to actually use the features! It defines a software. Apple is defined by their interface. The leaps and bounds we have taken over the years is absolutely insane! the GUI is What allows us, the average computer user, to understand the processes that happen on the computer and bypass all of the technical junk. It has allowed even the dumbest of people to use computer now, whereas in the past, only complete "computer nerds" would know how to use the technology.

  4. I can't fathom what school and work would be like without a computer, it plays such an important role in most people’s lives. As you mentioned in your post, the GUI PC created a different relationship and experience between the PC and its user. We have become so attached to technology but specifically computers as well as smart phones/tablets that serve as computers for many people. Information is so easily accessible and the GUI PC was the foundation much of our technology. Great post!

  5. The importance of the lowered barrier of entry to computing with modern GUIs cannot be overstated. They have only grown in importance with the explosive spread of smartphones and other touch-based devices, where the user's entire experience is defined through his/her physical interaction with the interface. I look forward to seeing future trends in how we interface with computers evolve as smartphones become even more commonplace and newly popular technologies such as virtual reality systems take up more space in the computing world.

  6. Hey Anthony
Great post! Personally, I know many of my real friends and I have a lot of “friends” on Facebook. Your post really got me thinking and made me want to rethink how we show ourselves online. many of the times we can lose ourselves on the person that we are trying to e online. I loved how you reinstated the three requirements at the start of your post, it helped me keep that in mind as I read the rest of your post.
